Welcome to the Southwest Harbor Cemeteries web site. The purpose of this site is to provide basic cemetery information and pertinent notes so individual researchers will not have to “reinvent the wheel” by tracking down the same material that others have already found.

Clark Family Burying Ground (cemetery in 2010)
   Location. Along west side of Claremont Road. UTM: 19T 0554786, 4902973; Lat./Long.: N 44°16′40.6″ x W 68°18′48.4″
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In 10.6–10.7 miles (6.3–6.4 miles of which are south of the traffic light at the intersection of Routes 102/198 and 198/233), turn left onto Clark Point Road at the blinking light in the center of the village of Southwest Harbor. In 0.6–0.7 miles is an intersection on the left with Claremont Road. (The angle of the sign for Claremont Road makes it difficult to read from Clark Point Road, so look for a sign for the Claremont Inn). Turn left onto Claremont Road, and the cemetery is on the left in less than 0.1 miles.

Doliver Grave (grave in 2008)
   Location. In woods, east of Route 102 and west of Route 102A. Coordinates available.
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In 11.3–11.4 miles (about 0.8 miles of which are south of the blinking light in the village of Southwest Harbor), there is an intersection of Routes 102 and 102A. Continue straight on Route 102 for about 0.4 miles, and turn left onto Hillcrest Circle. In less than 0.1 miles, bear left onto a gravel road (1999). In 0.1–0.2 miles, there is a road on the left that leads in the general direction of the grave. From this point travel should be on foot. The stone bears the marks of three bullets and is located in the general vicinity of discarded white goods, a half a dozen or so abandoned automobiles, and other debris.

Dolliver Family Burial Ground
   Location. Seawall Campground (Acadia National Park). UTM: 19T 0555305, 4898898; Lat./Long.: N 44°14′28.4″ x W 68°18′26.6″
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In 11.3–11.4 miles (about 0.8 miles of which are south of the blinking light in the village of Southwest Harbor), turn left onto Route 102A. The entrance to Seawall Campground is on the right in 3.1–3.2 miles. Inquire at the ranger station for directions.

Evergreen Cemetery (cemetery in 2016)
   Location. Along east side of Route 102. UTM: 19T 0553524, 4905453; Lat./Long.: N 44°18′01.3″ x W 68°19′44.4″
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198, and the cemetery is on the left in 9.1–9.2 miles (the last 4.9 miles of which are south of the traffic light at the intersection of Routes 102/198 and 198/233).

Gilley Burying Ground (burying ground in 2012)
   Location. South of Fernald Point Road. UTM: 19T 0554009, 4904470; Lat./Long.: N 44°17′29.3″ x W 68°19′22.9″
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In 9.7–9.8 miles (5.4–5.5 miles of which are south of the traffic light at the intersection of Route 102/198 and Route 198), turn left onto Fernald Point Road. In approximately 0.2 miles the road rises and curves to the left. On the right in this curve is a paved drive that leads to the cemetery. The cemetery is on the right in about 0.1 miles.

King Cemetery (cemetery in 2008; cemetery in 2016)
   Location. Set back from west side of King’s Lane, behind Ellis Boatyard (2015). UTM: 19T 0555571, 4901329; Lat./Long.: N 44°15′47.1″ x W 68°18′13.6″
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In 11.3–11.4 miles (about 0.8 miles of which are south of the blinking light in the village of Southwest Harbor), turn left onto Route 102A. In approximately 1.2 miles, turn left onto Kings Lane. In less than 0.1 miles, a wide trail on the right leads to the cemetery.

Lurvey Burial Ground
   Location. Smuggler’s Den Campground. UTM: 19T 0553246, 4905297; Lat./Long.: N 44°17′56.3″ x W 68°19′57.0″
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. On the right in approximately 9.1–9.2 miles (the last 4.8–4.9 miles of which are south of the traffic light at the intersection of Routes 102/198 and 198/233), is the entrance to SmugglerÕs Den Campground. Inquire at the office for permission to enter the campground and for directions to the cemetery.

Moore Family Burial Ground (burial ground in 2008; burial ground in 2013; burial ground in 2014); burial ground in 2017)
   Location. At edge of field northeast of Route 102A. UTM: 19T 0556253, 4899923; Lat./Long.: N 44°15′01.3″ x W 68°17′43.4″
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In approximately 11.3Š11.4 miles (about 0.8 miles of which are south of the blinking light in the village of Southwest Harbor), turn left onto Route 102A. In 2.2–2.3 miles on the left (and immediately after a small trailer park) is a building from which take-out food is sometimes served. The cemetery is behind this building, but visible from Route 102A only when approaching from the south.

Mount Height Cemetery (cemetery in 2011)
   Location. Set back from the southeast side of Route 102. UTM: 19T 0553314, 4901721; Lat./Long.: N 44°16′00.3″ x W 68°19′32.7″
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In 11.3–11.4 miles (0.8 miles of which are south of the blinking light in the center of the village of Southwest Harbor), is an intersection of Routes 102 and 102A. Continue straight on Route 102 and the entrance to the cemetery is on the left in approximately 0.1 miles.

Newman Cemetery (cemetery in 2008; cemetery in 2016)
   Location. Along private road south of Route 102A. UTM: 19T 0556066, 4900788; Lat./Long.: N 44°15′29.4″ x W 68°17′51.5″
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In 11.3–11.4 miles (about 0.8 miles of which are south of the blinking light in the village of Southwest Harbor), turn left onto Route 102A. In 1.6–1.7 miles, turn left onto an unnamed dirt road (or if named, with no sign). This road runs along a large field that is enclosed by a wood fence. The cemetery is on the left in approximately 0.1 miles.

Old Burying Ground (burying ground in 2010)
   Location. Set back from the southeast side of High Road. UTM: 19T 0554256, 4903224; Lat./Long.: N 44°16′48.9″ x W 68°19′12.2″
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In 10.6–10.7 miles (6.3–6.4 miles of which are south of the traffic light at the intersection of Routes 102/198 and 198/233), turn left onto Clark Point Road at the blinking light in the center of the village of Southwest Harbor. In about 0.2 miles, turn left onto High Road. The cemetery is on the right in less than 0.1 miles.

Union Cemetery (cemetery in 2016)
   Location. Southwest of Route 102A, behind Manset Union Church. UTM: 19T 0555067, 4901619; Lat./Long.: N 44°15′56.6″ x W 68°18′36.3″
   Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), go straight ahead (south) onto Routes 102/198. In 11.3–11.4 miles (about 0.8 miles of which are south of the blinking light in the village of Southwest Harbor), turn left onto Route 102A. The church and cemetery are on the right in about 0.8–0.9 miles.
