1790 Mount Desert, Hancock County, Maine - The census record (below) is consistent with what we know of this family for 1790; i.e., 1 male 16 and upwards, 2 males under 16, and 4 females.



1800 Mount Desert, Hancock County, Maine - Although Mary Hamor was 15 years old as of the 1800 census, being listed in the 16–26 category is not unexpected given the approximate nature of census records. Research is needed to determine where the three youngest children—Daniel (8), Lucy (5), and [Jane or Jean?] (3)—were living. It appears that in 1810 Daniel and Lucy were once again living with their mother and some siblings. If Sarah (Hodgkins) Hamor's husband had in fact died prior to the 1800 census, then it might have been easier for his widow if the three youngest children had gone to live with other family. In the 1800 census, there was no overlap in age categories. What is recorded here, for example, as 16–26 was really "of 16 years and under 26".



1810 Mount Desert, Hancock County, Maine - It appears that in 1810 Daniel (18) and Lucy (16) were again living in this household. Hannah (27) was likely (married and) living in a separate household as was either Mary (25) or Sarah (24). More research is needed to determine if [Jane or Jean?] was living in 1810, and if she was, then where.




Death Data

It is hypothesized that John died between the censuses of 1790 and 1800. He was listed as a "Head of Family" in 1790, but in 1800 the "Head of Family" was Sarah Hamor and in 1810, Sally Hamor (Sally is a nickname for Sarah).
