In the census records and on gravestones, this surname was variously spelled Albee, Alby, and Allby. Until a distinction is made in spelling for a particular lineage, the spelling “Albee” is used here.
The earliest census entries for an Albee in Cranberry Isles or towns of Mount Desert Island were the family of Jonathan and Rhoda Albee in the town of Mount Desert in 1837 and the family of William and Abigail Albee, also in the town of Mount Desert in 1837.
