The earliest census entries for an Abbott in Cranberry Isles or a town of Mount Desert Island were the families of William and Matilda Abbott in the town of Eden (now Bar Harbor) in 1850 and of William N. and Eunice H. Abbott in the town of Tremont in 1850. These earliest Abbotts on MDI came from Eastbook, Maine.
