Comptonia peregrina (L.) Coult.

Taxonomic history:
   1753: Linnaeus described this species as Liquidambar peregrina in Species Plantarum, edition 1, p. 999.
   1789: L’Héritier, in Aiton, Hort. Kew. 3:334. established the genus Comptonia.
   1894: John Merle Coulter in Memoirs of the Torrey Botanical Club (volume 5, page 127), transferred Liquidambar peregrina to the genus Comptonia.
   today: The current name for this species is Comptonia peregrina (L.) Coult.
