During the history of the town of Portage Lake, there have been two post offices.

Briefly, the history of these two is as follows:
1. Portage post office was established on 6 November 1883 and is still in operation.
2. Portage Lake post office opened on 21 February 1867 and closed on 17 February 1871.

   Will E. Ross appointed Postmaster.

1907 February 7:
   The circular postmark is 22–23 mm in diameter. The outside height of the four horizontal double bars to the right of the circle 13 mm.

1921 October 6:
   Reginald B. Bartlett appointed Postmaster.

1927 December 26:
   William B. McConnell appointed Acting Postmaster.

   Portage post office.

   The circular postmark is 33–34 mm in diameter. The horizontal bars to the right of the circle are approximately 6 mm on center.

2005 April 16:
   Anita Theriault appointed Postmaster.

2011 January 27:
   Terri Lovewell appointed Officer-in-Charge.

2011 November 8:
   Christine Murphy appointed Officer-in-Charge.

2012 June 14:
   Leisa Henderson appointed Officer-in-Charge.

2013 July 27:
   Portage post office was converted to a Remotely Managed Post Office under the direction of the Postmaster of the Ashland post office.

2020:
