The earliest Dodge household on Mount Desert Island was that of Ezra H. Dodge, recorded in the 1790 census of Mount Desert, which included what are now the towns of Bar Harbor, Cranberry Isles, Southwest Harbor, and Tremont, as well as Mount Desert. The household was composed of 1 male, aged "16 and upwards" and 2 females. In 1800, there was a family of Ezra Dodge, presumably Ezra H., in Mount Desert, with 1 male under 10 and 1 male 16–26, and 4 females under 10, 1 female 10–16, and 1 female 26–45. In 1810 and 1820, there was still a single family of an Ezra Dodge, in Mount Desert. In 1830, there were families of 5 Dodges, all in Mount Desert: Ezra, Ezra H., Gideon, John S., and Reuben. In 1840, there were Mount Desert families of Ezra, Ezra Jr., Gideon, and John S.
