      Parcel 1:
         Beginning at a stake and stones standing on the southerly bank of the stream in range with the westerly side of Gustavus Hayford's grist mill;
         then westerly by said bank 8 rods as in a straight line to a stake and stones;
         then south 5 rods to a stake and stones;
         then westerly [sic; either should be “easterly” or the “westerly” above should be “easterly”] in a parallel line with the first mentioned line 8 rods to a stake and stones;
         then north 5 rods to the bound first mentioned.
      Parcel 2:
         Beginning at a stake and stones on the east side of said [county] road 8 rods S 10° W from a pine stump;
         then S 80° E 20 rods;
         then S 10° W 8 rods;
         then N 80° W 20 rods to a stake and stone;
         then N 10° E 8 rods to the bound first mentioned.
   Note: Also conveyed with parcel 1 was “the privilege of passing to and from the county road running through said lot, the nearest and most convenient way, with teams or otherwise for his convenience”. Further, Zalmon Briggs conveyed in a separate deed (27:4–5; 9 April 1824) to John Hersey “a privilege of water for grinding bark and other uses necessary in tan[n]ing which water is to be taken from Gustavus Hayford's floom [flume] at his mill in said Canton being on the opposite side of the stream from the bark house and tanyard which are to be benefited by said water privilege; said Hearsey is not to make use of the water to the damage of any mill machinery or other water works now standing or being in operation within six rods of said bark house”. Reference is made to a deed, book and page not specified, from Gustavus Hayford to Amos Turner “for a more particular description”.
