(updated 27 May 2016)

Welcome to the Turner Cemeteries web site. The purpose of this site is to provide basic cemetery information and pertinent notes so individual researchers will not have to “reinvent the wheel” by tracking down the same material that others have already found.

Over time some private/family cemeteries were discontinued and those interred in them along with gravestones were moved to other cemeteries. A small notebook belonging to the Turner Historical Society contains the following note: “Certain Cemeteries in the Town of Turner and the City of Auburn were moved in the year 1925, by Dillingham & Son, Undertakers, Auburn, Maine, under the direction of L. B. Hisler, Coopers Mills, Maine.” The Turner cemeteries were Gilbert Cemetery (East Turner), Bradford Cemetery (South River Road), and Mower Cemetery (South River Road). Those in the Gilbert Cemetery were moved to Centerville Cemetery (in 1925 called Turner Center Cemetery), Keens Mills Cemetery (now Keene's Mills Cemetery), or Mount Auburn Cemetery (Auburn). Those in the Bradford Cemetery were moved to Centerville Cemetery (in 1925 called Turner Center Cemetery), Keens Mills Cemetery (now Keene's Mills Cemetery), or Mount Auburn Cemetery (Auburn). Those in Mower Cemetery were moved to Keens Mills Cemetery (now Keene's Mills Cemetery) or Mount Auburn Cemetery (Auburn).

All information, especially source material, for inclusion in this web page should be sent to info@vfthomas.com or mailed to “Turner Cemeteries c/o V. F. Thomas Co.; 183 Pleasant St., Apt. 1; Canton, ME 04221”.

A little work by each of us will save a lot of work for all of us.
Thank you to Eva Leavitt and another volunteer at the Turner Historical Society for their help with this page.
