Bracketed information above represents an incorrect report of a person's exact age—census records were often "approximate"—but is the likely category that that person was placed in.

1830 Mount Desert, Maine (Hancock County) - A total of 7 persons were living in this household in 1830. In addition to those listed above, there were: 1 male "5 and under 10" and 1 female "15 and under 20".

1840 Mount Desert, Maine (Hancock County) - A total of 10 persons were living in this household in 1840. In addition to those listed above, there were: 1 female "20 and under 30", and 1 female "70 and under 80". Rachel Foster (Lurvey) Carroll's mother died in 1839, leaving her father as a widower. However, none of the potential members of her father's household match those "extra" individuals present in the Carroll household.

1850 Mount Desert, Maine (Hancock County) - dwelling 160, family 160. Also living in this household in 1850 was Jacob Lurvey, the father of Rachel Foster (Lurvey) Carroll.

1860 Tremont, Maine (Hancock County) - dwelling 472, family 459. Rachel Carroll Jr. married Richard Allen in 1855 and they had a child, Katherine [Catherine in 1870 census] Allen (3 y., b. Maine). Richard Allen drowned at sea within two years of their marriage. Also living in this household in 1860 was a James Welsh (63 y., b. Ireland).

1870 Tremont, Maine (Hancock County) - dwelling 233, family 247. Rachel (Carroll) Allen and daugther Catherine [Katherine in 1860 census] Allen (13 y., b. Maine) continued to live in the household of her mother.

1880 On 19 April 1867 John Carroll sold to son Jacob 50 acres of lot number 50 on the Salem Towne Jr. 1808 map, "meaning to convey the lot on which I now live". Although Jacob was, in 1880, still living in the house he grew up in, he and his family were listed first in the census record, and his mother, sister Mary Ann, and a cousin Enoch Lurvey were recorded as members of the household. (See the "documentation and notes" for Jacob William Carroll for the 1880 and later census records.)
