Note 1: On this same date (24 August 1836) took a mortgage on this parcel and one other (62:521) with their parents, David and Experience Hamor. The provisions of this mortgage were “that if the said Peleg Hamor and Alden Hamor, their heirs, executors, administrators or assigns shall and do during the natural lives of the said David Hamor & Experience Hamor and the survivor of them provide for their maintenance according to their rank & condition in life & more particularly according to a certain bond given for maintenance and for the payment of certain sums of money, then this deed as also said certain bond bearinng even date with these presets, given by the said Peleg Hamor & Alden Hamor to the said David Hamor & Experience Hamor shall be void, otherwise shall remain in full force.”
Note 2: No record of the discharge of this mortgage has been found, but (1) Peleg, Alden’s brother, died on 18 November 1839, thereby leaving fulfillment of the mortgage provisions to Alden, and (2) on 20 December 1881 (much later than the death of both parents—David on 25 October 1836 and Experience on 26 October 1856), a record (182:415) is found of Alden Hamor selling a portion of this parcel (62:517). This suggests that the obligations were satisfied.
