Location. In woods north of Route 233, on east slope of McFarland Hill. UTM: 19T 0559096, 4914117; Lat./Long.: N 44°22′40.5″ x W 68°15′29.5″

Directions. From the intersection of Routes 3 and 102/198 at the north end of Mount Desert Island (just after you cross the bridge from Thompson Island), bear left on Route 3. Travel on Route 3 for 10.0–10.1 miles to the intersection on the right with Route 233 (Eagle Lake Road). Just before the stop sign at the intersection, turn right onto Route 233 (Eagle Lake Road). Follow Route 233 for 2.5–2.6 miles, and the Newman grave is on the right in the woods.

History: This grave is on land that is now part of Acadia National Park.

Notes: This stone, which is detached from its base, is at the edge of an old field near a low, wet area that extends nearly to Route 233.
